Our Solution

The challenge was to design a bright and airy practice within the constraints of the long and narrow existing building plan. The three-storey building has a prime spot on the local high street creating the opportunity to design a bright and attractive shopfront and entrance area. However the high street façade was the only elevation to contain any windows meaning the rest of the deep plan could only be lit via artificial lighting.

To address this issue NVDC proposed the design and formation of a light well in the centre of the plan. By bringing natural light and fresh air into the centre of the practice we were able to focus the general circulation and main waiting areas around this. Floor to ceiling glass partitions to the surgeries provide natural light and further enhance the sense of space.

Taking full advantage of the high street locale the main reception and waiting area faces the street behind the generously glazed shopfront with emphasis on the Clients strong branding.  The clients colour palette of grey, white and green reinforces the theme of cleanliness, brightness and nature throughout to give a peaceful aesthetic.

The generous accommodation comprised; DDA compliant reception and waiting area, five surgeries, OPG x-ray, decontamination suite, admin office, DSR, additional waiting room, staff facilities and conferencing suite.
